I worked with experienced technicians at a packaging machine company for 7 months.
Designed and developed two fully automatic packaging machines, the first of their kind designed and locally developed in India.
Headed a team that had no prior experience in prototyping a mechanical link-operated machine, as the majority of the machines the company produced were pneumatically operated ones that were built by assembling parts they acquired externally. Exhibited the new machine and other company products at an exhibition and bagged orders and new clients for the company.
Modified existing packaging machinery. Made design improvements based on insights from technicians and users for better performance, maintenance, and ease of assembly and disassembly. Also played a key role in the overall running of the company.
UPM 501 & 502
Two fully automatic mechanical link-operated (Powder and Liquid) impulse sealing packaging machines were designed and developed.
A foreign-developed machine was reverse-engineered without dismantling it but by observing its workings physically and by watching online videos. A new simplified design with more features suitable for the Indian market was designed by including the technicians in the design and ideation stages, taking into consideration their experience and availability of fabricating machines, parts, and electronics.
Regularly communicated with the fabrication team during the design and ideation stages.
Worked along with the technicians on the factory floor to guide them during the fabrication and assembly stages. The inputs and concerns they pointed out were effectively noted to alter the design according to the resources available.
Vacuum Sealer
Assisted in the modification of a semi-automatic vacuum glove sealer based on the insights given by the client, who showed dissatisfaction with the older version of the product and requested major improvements.
The older version the client was using had to be reverse-engineered because of imperfections in the existing hand-drawn technical drawings. New engineering drawings were provided to the technicians.
Blister Packaging machine
Designed by watching videos online and referring to the products packed using a similar machine.
UPM 201
Assisted in the modification of a fully automatic solid + liquid bottle packaging machine.
